I have a question to ask you: what is stopping you from being a more value-adding Finance Business Partner?
I hope that stopped you in your tracks! Think for a moment: “what is stopping me?” Then, you’ll either identify that you are a value-adding Finance Business Partner and are rocking it. Or you’ll start to identify the issues and challenges that you’re facing.
Are you thinking you don’t have enough time to be a value-adding Finance Business Partner?
- Why not?
- What are you spending your time doing?
- What do you need to do to free up that time to do the value-adding piece?
These are questions to throw out there – not accusations. Ask yourself questions to coach yourself & to work
through yourself. More examples are below:

- How are you engaging with our weekly Tuesday tips?
- Can you go on a course? Have a look on Udemy, the ‘Amazon’ website of training courses. We have an ‘Introduction to Finance Business Partnering’ course on there at a very, very good cost.
- Or join the Finance Business Partner Member’s Club and learn how it’s done!
- Look for articles online — what can you do to find out how to be a stronger Finance Business Partner?
Are you lacking confidence in how to become Business Partner? I.e. lacking confidence in actually carrying out the role?
- What would make you more confident?
- What’s the worst that could happen if you did something that took you out of your comfort zone today?
There will be more questions and these all started from asking that one question: what is stopping you from being a more value-adding Finance Business Partner today? Or this week? This month, and so on?
